Imperial Eagle

Imperial Eagle

I was birding around the kibbutz relatively late during the day yesterday, seeing some of the wintering species that are here, also seeing a few tree pipits that came in. Suddenly I glimpsed a shadow above me, and noticed a large eagle soaring overhead.

It had something in its talons that I could not make out. After making a few circles between the perimeter fence and the border fence, it landed in the open. It was an adult Imperial Eagle that was feasting on a dove species. Its golden feathers on the head and neck regions and the white spots on its shoulders made it unmistakable. I had a good look at it until a patrol car came by, scaring it off. It soared again and eventually disappeared from view into Jordan. It seems that this individual is the same one that I had seen a few days before as it landed on the southern perimeter fence of the kibbutz.
