Yotvata Sewage pools 30 April 2008

On April 30th around midday, Marcus Craig found a Pectoral Sandpiper at the Yotvata sewage pools.

Although probably the most common North American vagrant Wader in Europe, in Israel Pectoral Sandpiper is extremely rare and the Yotvata bird is only the 6th record for the country.

Pectoral Sandpiper – Calidris melanotosThe Pectoral Sandpiper is in no hurry to get back to its Siberian breeding grounds and has been around for a few days now, allowing many of Israel’s birders to catch up with it.

These images were taken on May 4th, around mid day.

Enjoy!
