News Alert - Greater Scaups in Kefar Ruppin!
12th December 2003.
In a matter of days, Vincent De Boer has followed up his superb find of a Black-shouldered
Kite in November
with two species of vagrant diving ducks on the Kefar Ruppin Reservoirs, Bet
Shean. On the 8th of December,
Vince discovered a female-type Smew (Mergellus abellus), and today the 12th
of December, he located
two female-type Greater Scaups (Aythya marila) in the same area. Three images
of the Greater Scaups are
included here. This is now a very rare species in Israel, certainly less than
annual in occurrence and
an inland record is especially exciting.
